A one-day district level awareness camp was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala on the topic of crop residue management on 18.10.2023 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala. About 400 farmers, farmers’ wives, heads of various institutions like horticulture, dairy development, fisheries, agriculture, IFFCO, women and child development department and school children participated in this camp. On this occasion, exhibitions were also organized by progressive farmers and government institutions. In the beginning of the program, K.V.K. In charge of Patiala Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur emphasized on not burning crop residue and shed light on the harmful effects of harmful fumes on health. Dr. Rajni Goyal, Associate Professor (Food Science), PAU, Ludhiana gave information about the processing of vegetable and fruit products. Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture) shared information on the use of straw in horticultural crops. Dr. Hardeep Singh Sabikhi, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) gave detailed information on comprehensive pest and disease control in stubble management fields. Dr. Gurnaz Singh Gill, Assistant Professor (Processing and Food Engineering) conducted the entire program and imparted technical information to the farmers about the agricultural machinery like Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder, Super Seeder and other machinery for efficient management of stubble. . Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Soil Scientist, Farm Advisory Service Center, Patiala, gave information about improving the quality of soil by maintaining straw. Karamjit Singh, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Patiala introduced the schemes of his institution. School children presented a poem on stubble conservation and a street play was also conducted. In this regard, there was a discussion among farmers and scientists about straw technologies. On this occasion, an attractive exhibition of their products was also organized by trained farmers from KVK Patiala. Progressive farmer heroes and women were also honored to boost their morale.
