A field day on “Sesame” was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pathankot at village Matti Kot, Pathankot district, on October 12, 2023. The district is one of the potential districts for cultivation of oilseeds (sesame). The programme started with the field visit of scientists of KVK and local farmers.
Dr Narinder Deep Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Pathankot, emphasized the need to use quality seed, soil test based fertilizer application, and following all the recommended technologies for increasing the yield and income of farmers. He assured to conduct more demonstrations on oilseeds for promotion of improved technologies. He further stressed the need to turn farmers into seed entrepreneurs and assured all the support from KVK, Pathankot in terms of training and providing the parental material. He also assured timely access to quality seed of oilseeds.
During the programme, farmers interacted with the scientists of KVK and clarified their queries. Around 60 farmers participated in the field day and relevant literature was also provided to the farmers.
