Under the guidance of ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, ‘Kisan Session’ was organized by Krishak Jagat, Bhopal on 19 August 2023 under “Carrot Grass Awareness Week 2023”. On this occasion Dr. J. S. Mishra, Director, Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur; Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist; Dr. Vijay Chaudhary, Senior Scientist, Dr. Deepak Pawar, Scientist participated as keynote speakers. In this farmer session, through audio visual presentation, problems arising from carrot grass were explained and information was given about different means for its prevention. Dr. J. S. Mishra told about skin diseases caused by carrot grass. He also guided the farmers on how to protect themselves from carrot grass.
Addressing the farmers in the program, Principal Scientist Dr. P.K. Singh said that carrot grass is an aggressive and poisonous weed which is harmful for crops as well as humans. It is seen in empty land on the roadside. Apart from this, this weed is now affecting our paddy, wheat, gram, lentils, vegetables and It is also being seen in the fields of all types of crops. Farmer brothers need to unite and make efforts to eradicate it from their own fields from family level, village level, development block level and at the national level. He further said that farmers can also take a kit named Mexican Beetle from the Directorate of Weed Research and release it in the fields, which eats and destroys this plant. This kit does not harm any other crop.
Senior scientist Dr. Vijay Kumar Choudhary, while solving the queries of the farmers, gave them detailed information about the compost made from carrot grass and appealed to the farmers to visit the Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur anytime and get free training on making compost from carrot grass. Can get it. Agricultural scientist Dr. Deepak Pawar told that farmers must wear gloves in their hands while removing carrot grass from the fields and later bury it in a deep pit, do other work only after washing hands thoroughly with soap. This weed should be kept away from children and other sensitive things as it is highly poisonous and can cause itching, asthma, Animals should also be kept away from this weed as it can cause allergies or other skin related diseases. During the program, farmers from across the country asked scientists questions about carrot grass and other crops and got solutions to their questions.
