A group of 60 students of B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture VI semester along with four faculty members from Chandrabhanu Gupta Agriculture Post Graduate College of Lucknow University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh visited at ICAR-CISH Lucknow on 10th August, 2023. The importance of fruits and vegetables in food and nutritional security was discussed. Students were apprised of newly released vegetable varieties like high yielding golden cherry tomato-2 and Raunak Tinda (DRM- 26) for nutritional requirements and enhancing farmers’ income across the country. The need for protected cultivation, low cost polytonal and polyhouse for producing vegetables were also emphasized. Role of scientific orchard management was explained. Disease diagnostics of fruits was discussed. Life cycles and management of stem borer and shoot gall psylla were communicated to students. Importance of soil and tree nutritional management for quality fruit production was presented. The role of resource conservation and management for successful subtropical fruit production was explained. Students were motivated for adoption of precision farming protocols, value addition and extension services for solving problems of the farming community. Adverse effects of climate change and importance of water conservation during fruit set to development was explained. Hindi literatures on scientific fruit production, successful vegetables cultivation (cherry tomato and squash melon), protection (mango stem borer and shoot gall psylla) were distributed to the students. During field visits, espalier systems of guava production, high density Amrapali production and mushroom cultivation were shown. Laboratory visits were also successfully conducted and students were apprised of biotechnology and post harvest practices for enriching value addition. Dr. Dushyant Mishra (Principal Scientist), Dr. P.K. Shukla (Principal Scientist), Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist) and Dr. Tarun Adak (Senior Scientist) delivered lectures and interacted with the students. Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist), Dr. Tarun Adak (Senior Scientist) and Mr. Arvind Kumar (ACTO) coordinated the visit.
