“Practice low tunnel vegetable cultivation, a vital recommendation for off season cultivation of vegetables during the winter season,” advised Dr Ruma Devi, vegetable science expert, to the farmers at the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club. As many as 55 farmer members attended the camp which was held under the leadership of Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, and Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, here today.

Requiring minimum maintenance and less irrigation, the low tunnel technique was quite affordable for the small and marginal farmers, said she. Besides, the simple, cost-effective and easy to construct structures protected the plants from hail, frost, strong winds, cold injury and other weather vagaries, told Dr Devi.

Dr KS Suri, Senior Entomologist, and Dr Manpreet Khiva, Agronomist, explained the seed treatment and insect-pest as well as weed management in rabi crops.

Dr Madhu Shally, animal science expert, suggested tips for the care and management of milch animal in winters.

Satvir Singh, Secretary of the club, welcomed the experts and the farmers, while Manpreet Grewal, President of the club, proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Varinder Singh from Communication Centre.
