On the occasion of ‘World Intellectual Property Day,’ a workshop on “Registration of Plant Varieties” was held on April 30, 2024, adopting a hybrid mode, facilitating both physical and virtual participation. Over 65 attendees, including scientists from ICAR-IIOR and AICRP on Oilseeds, students, and project staff, actively engaged in the event. Dr. R.K. Mathur, Director of ICAR-IIOR, presided over the proceedings.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. S. Senthilvel, Principal Scientist & PI, NAIF Component-I (ITMU), extending greetings to all participants. Sh. D.R. Choudhury, Joint Registrar of PPV&FRA, New Delhi, delivered an insightful virtual talk on “Registration of Parental Lines, Varieties, and Hybrids with PPV&FRA.” His presentation covered crucial aspects of the PPV&FR Act 2001, such as the registration process, DUS testing, benefit sharing, gene fund, and the Plant Genome Savior Community Award. Following the talk, participants actively engaged in a fruitful discussion, exploring practical aspects of plant variety registrations. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. T. Boopathi, Principal Scientist, Co-PI NAIF Component-I (ITMU), and Officer-in-Charge (TIC), expressing gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions.
