In a bid to share the spirit of camaraderie and deliberate on agro-forestry in Punjab, Dr Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor, of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, Uttarakhand, visited the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), on Tuesday.
During a close interaction with the faculty and students of FNR at PAU, Dr Kaushal tool keen interest in forestry and agroforestry research. He recommended starting of ecological research in the field of agroforestry in Punjab. Besides, he suggested incorporating M.Sc. Forestry students into departmental operations and activities. He also emphasized that forestry students had much more opportunities in the research, teaching and the administrative fields.
Later, a fruitful discussion was held with the young faculty members to enhance their abilities to elevate the department to unprecedented levels.
Earlier, Dr GPS Dhillon, Head of the FNR Department, welcomed Dr Kaushal and gave a brief introduction about his illustrious career. He told, “An alumnus of FNR department, Dr Kaushal has served as an Assistant Professor of Forestry from 1981-90, and as a Silviculturist at PAU’s Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri, from 1990-92. Thereafter, Dr Kaushal worked as Vice-Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan; and Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand.”
Dr RIS Gill, Professor of Agroforestry and an Estate Officer, PAU, expressed gratitude and applauded Dr Kaushal for reliving memorable moments and reaching the pinnacles of success in the field of academics as well as agriculture, thus, bringing laurels to the alma-mater ‘PAU’ at the national level.
Accompanied by the faculty of FNR, Dr Dhillon and Dr Gill presented a token of regard to Dr Kaushal.
