Tuber crops seed village programme: Farmers’ training and distribution of planting material” was organised on 15.5.2024 in Venganoor Grama panchayath at CSI church Hall ,Venniyoor. The program is intended to address the shortage of quality planting materials by making available the required planting materials of the improved tuber crop varieties in each village and also collect the surplus for distribution to other stake holders. The Venganoor panchayath was adopted by ICAR-CTCRI as part of My village My pride program of Team 5 consisting of Dr. K.Sunilkumar (leader), Dr. M.N. Sheela, Principal scientist, Dr K.M. Senthilkumar , Scientist, Dr SN Rahana, Scientist and Dr. J.Sureshkumar, Scientist and as part of the programme training was imparted on following topics be respective scientists 1. Importance of quality planting material and initiatives of ICAR- CTCRI to strengthen the same through Decentralized Seed Multipliers program by Dr.K.Sunilkumar, Principal Scientist 2. Value addition in tuber crops and entrepreneurial opportunities by Dr. S. N.Rahana, Scientist.

The program was organised in association with Venganoor Krishibhavan and Venganoor grama Panchayat. Sri. R S Sreekumar, President, gram Panchayat inaugurated the same which was presided over by Dr. K. Sunilkumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI. Standing committee chairman Smt. Ajitha Sasitharan spoke on the occasion. Smt. Sreeja S, Agricultural officer addressed the gathering. Fifty farmers from five selected wards viz. Venniyoor, Venganoor, Muttakkad, Panangodu and Nellivila are trained and planting materials of improved Cassava varieties, protray nursery of cassava variety SreeReksha, greater yam, african yam (white yam), major nutrients like urea, potash and rajphos and micro nutrient formulation (Micronol) were distributed to these farmers. Smt Sreeja ,S. Agricultural Officer, venganoor KB gave welcome address and Dr. K M Senthilkumar, Scientist ICAR-CTCRI given vote of thanks. Under the programme promising farmers will be registered as Decentralized Seed Multipliers of CTCRI. This will enable the farmers to market the quality planting material under CTCRI label at premium price.
