Under the National Nutrition Month (1-30 September, 2024), the students of RAVE program of the final year of the University’s Community Science College organized a tree plantation and awareness program related to nutritious food at Anganwadi, Phoolbagh Center, Pantnagar on 5 September 2024. The theme of the program was Nutritious Diet: Identity of Healthy Life. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Alka Goyal, Dean Community Science College, by planting lemon and jamun plants in the Anganwadi premises. Addressing the women, Dr. Alka Goyal said that trees are various parts of our environment and also fill us with nutrition through fruits. She said that these plants should be nurtured like children so that in the coming time nutritious fruits can be obtained from these trees. This tree plantation and awareness program was organized under the leadership of Dr. Anupama Pandey, Assistant Professor and RAVE Incharge. The objective of the Poshan Maah Utsav was to increase health and nutrition awareness among women, adolescents, pregnant and lactating women. About 30 women participated in this program, in which Anganwadi worker Mrs. Pramila Devi and assistant Kumari Preeti Yadav gave full cooperation. The students prepared various dissemination literature and teaching material to give information about the health diet and lifestyle of pregnant and lactating women, which included flash cards, posters, booklets and video programs, through which women were given information in an easy and effective way. Under the nutrition awareness program, women were told about balanced diet, diet and lifestyle for pregnancy, important yoga postures, diseases occurring during this period and schemes run by the government. The benefits of breastfeeding and different techniques of breastfeeding were shown and explained through the video. Women were also told about the nutrient-rich food plan that how they can fulfill their nutritional needs with the food items kept in their home. Along with this, some cooking tips were also given for complete absorption of the nutrients found in the food. The highlight of the programme was the analysis and measurement of body mass index of rural women in which the weight and height of women and adolescent girls were measured and they were made aware of their health status. This programme played an important role in making rural women aware of the importance of health and nutrition and motivated them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
