The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar, in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, recently concluded a vocational training course on “Preservation of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables.” The program saw participation from 10 farm women and adolescent girls.
Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director of KVK Ropar, welcomed the participants and highlighted the potential of value addition in increasing family income. He encouraged the trainees to leverage the knowledge gained for subsidiary occupations, promoting self-employment.
Dr. Princy, Assistant Professor (Home Science), inspired participants to form self-help groups and adopt the preservation techniques as an enterprise. She conducted training sessions on making various value-added products such as pickles, chutneys, aam papad, sharbats, squashes, and ice creams from fresh and seasonal produce. Additionally, Dr. Princy demonstrated recent technologies in value addition, aiming to empower the participants with practical skills for economic growth.
