To curb the menace of stubble burning, the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a programme entitled ‘Training of Trainers on Paddy Straw Management to Control Straw Burning’ under Crop Residue Management Scheme 2024-25. Agricultural Officers, Agriculture Development Officers and Agriculture Engineers of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab, attended the programme. In total, 21 participants from districts of Gurdaspur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and SAS Nagar participated in the training programme.
In his welcome address, Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Head of the Department and Course Director, informed that the department was demonstrating paddy straw management techniques to the state government functionaries to further create awareness among the farmers and turn the straw burning villages into zero burning villages. He also laid emphasis on ready/repair of the machines for the coming season.
Dr Aseem Verma, Training Coordinator, said that the trainees were imparted knowledge about various in-situ- and ex-situ straw management technologies such as Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Super Seeder, Straw Chopper-cum-Spreader, Incorporation, Surface Seeder, Baling, etc. Trainees were also imparted training in weed and pest management knowledge in residue-managed fields. Later, Dr Verma proposed a vote of thanks.
Dr MK Narang, Dr Manpreet Singh, Dr Aseem Verma, Dr Jasvir Singh Gill, Dr Apoorv Prakash, Dr Simaejeet Kaur and Dr Beant Singh were the experts during the training programme. All the participants showed keen interest in the training sessions and interactive sessions on field problems.
Trainees were also given hands-on experience with different machines during the programme.
