In a significant development, the Board of Management of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has appointed Dr Manmohanjit Singh, a distinguished Soil Scientist and former Director of the Regional Research Station at Ballowal Saunkhri, as the inaugural Dean of the newly established PAU-College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri. Dr. Singh’s journey at PAU has been marked by years of dedicated service and remarkable contributions to agricultural research and education.
Dr Singh’s association with PAU began in 1996 when he joined as an Assistant Professor in Soil Science at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Ferozepur. Over the years, he held various key roles within the institution and served as the Senior Extension Specialist at FASC Mohali for a brief period. Notably, he served as the Director of the Regional Research Station at Ballowal Saunkhri and Chief Scientist in the All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture. He also held the position of Nodal Officer for the Generation and Dissemination of Knowledge Management System (GKMS) for eight years.
Dr. Manmohanjit Singh has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Dr. N. S. Randhawa Gold Medal, the Sumer Memorial Best Extension Scientist Award, and the Appreciation and Best Outstation Research Scientist Awards by PAU. He has authored over 260 research and extension publications and secured over 17 national and international competitive projects. Dr. Singh has actively participated in 73 national and international conferences and workshops, including those held in the USA, China, Australia, Italy, Bangladesh, and Nepal. As a dedicated mentor, he has guided four M.Sc. students and one PhD student as a major advisor, and he initiated a two-year diploma course in agriculture at the Regional Research Station in Ballowal Saunkhri. He also played a pivotal role in creating, formulating, and advocating for establishing the College of Agriculture at Ballowal Saunkhri, contributing to its successful realization. His areas of specialization encompass soil erosion quantification and management, on-farm water management, soil quality assessment, and watershed management. His extensive experience collaborating with farmers, NGOs, social organizations, and development agencies underscores his commitment to advancing agricultural practices and sustainable development.
