Sameti – Uttarakhand organizes training on ‘organic farming’ Pantnagar. 7 August 2024 Sameti – Uttarakhand and District Administration, Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) are organizing ‘organic farming’ training for rural women of Bijapur district, which is one of the major areas affected by Naxalism, from August 06-11, 2024. According to the officials from the District Administration, Bijapur, the objective of the training is to increase the income of rural women affected by Naxalism by connecting them with organic farming. On the occasion of the inauguration of the program, Director Extension Education Dr. Jitendra Kwatra said that today there is a huge demand for organic products in the country as well as abroad. These rural women can promote their livelihood by marketing organic products by forming a farmer producer organization. In particular, he advised to improve soil health and increase income by cultivating vegetables through organic method, integrated agriculture system and animal husbandry. Dr. B. D. Singh, Professor, Agronomy welcomed the participants and discussed about the various programs to be conducted by the SAMETI. He informed that in this training, lectures will be organized on topics like organic farming – introduction, principles and benefits, details of various agricultural inputs used under organic farming, advanced farming of crops through organic method, organic farming of vegetables, especially organic tomato, capsicum and cucumber production technology in polyhouse, structure of polyhouse and use of micro irrigation technology, nutrient management under organic farming, pest disease control through organic method, importance of biocontrollers in organic vegetable production, value addition of milk products produced through organic method and methods of certification of organic crops and benefits of certification. For demonstration and experimental learning, the participants will be taken on a tour of the university’s crop research center, horticulture research center, fisheries, academic dairy farm, Nagla, mushroom research center etc. In this training program, Divya Negi, Public Policy Officer, Mr. Nikhil Mahapatra, District Project Manager, Mr. Krishna Kumar, Assistant Director Agriculture, Bijapur and Mr. Sanjay Malakar, ATMA Officer along with 10 women farmers are participating.
