The Sensitisation Workshop on Augmented Reality (AR) – Virtual Reality (VR) Modules for students was conducted, in a blended learning mode, during 5 – 7 July 2023 at the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE), Mumbai. The Workshop was jointly organized by ICAR-CIFE and ICAR-IASRI, under the leadership of Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director and Dr. N.P. Sahu, Joint Director, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Director, ICAR-IASRI and Dr. Sudeep Marwa, Head, CAD, ICAR-IASRI. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of AR and VR technologies, their applications, and their potential impact on various industries. The workshop saw he participation of 60 registered MFSc and PhD scholars. They were divided into six groups, with ten participants each, to facilitate the immersive and hands-on experience of VR/AR modules.
The Workshop encompassed a series of sessions conducted by experienced professionals (Hyper Reality Pvt. Ltd) and faculty from ICAR-CIFE, ICAR-IASRI and 13 other participating AUs. The sessions were thoughtfully designed to experience and learn from the 10 VR/AR modules developed under the NAHEP Project including the one on fish anatomy. The sessions included interactive presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and immersive experiences using AR and VR devices.
During the workshop, Dr. P.S. Ananthan delivered a presentation on the Virtual Reality module on Fish Anatomy, developed by ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, to participants from AUs who joined the workshop online and those 60 students present physically on-site at CIFE. This session provided valuable insights into the application of AR and VR in the field of fisheries. Additionally, Dr. R.C. Aggrawal, National Director of NAHEP and DDG (Agri Edn), and Dr. Anuradha Aggrawal, National Coordinator, NAHEP, experienced the VR Fish Anatomy module during their visit to ICAR-CIFE on 7th July 2023 and were overwhelmed by the learning possibilities being made possible by AR-VR technologies.
