The students of the Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a rally in the village Lalton Khurd with the objective of raising awareness about the prevalent social issues among the rural population. Under the guidance of Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Extension Scientist and overseer of Rural Agricultural Work Experience group, the students passionately addressed key societal concerns such as drug abuse, youth migration, environmental pollution and women empowerment.
Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, said that the programme aimed at fostering agricultural development and community engagement. As the awareness rally unfolded, the students engaged with the villagers, disseminating crucial information and fostering dialogue on these pressing issues.
The Village Sarpanch Sardar Gurjagdeep Singh Grewal expressed gratitude to Dr Kuldeep Singh for allocating village to the students. The partnership between the academic institution and the village has proved to be mutually enriching, he added.
Acknowledging the efforts of the students, Mrs Nisha Sharma, School Principal, lauded the initiatives including competitions in poster making related to paddy straw management, Green Diwali, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and rallies addressing social issues, which exemplified students’ commitment to holistic community development.
Later, Harbhajan Singh, a group leader along with other RAWE students, expressed their gratitude to both the department and the villagers, highlighting the transformative experience made possible with the collaborative efforts in the village Lalton Khurd.
