Under the guidance of Dr Makkhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, the Skill Development Centre conducted a five-day training course on “Establishing Agro-Based Enterprises” for the farmers and farm women of Punjab from November 25 to 29, 2024. The programme saw active participation from 38 trainees eager to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture.

Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), highlighted the significance of this initiative, urging participants to go beyond traditional farming. She emphasized that the training aimed to equip farmers with knowledge and skills to process agricultural produce, add value, and establish themselves as successful entrepreneurs.

Course Coordinator Dr Preetinder Kaur shed light on the importance of the training programme. Experts from the Department of Processing and Food Engineering, including Dr Tarsem Chand, Dr Mahesh Kumar, Dr M.S. Alam, Dr Gurveer Kaur, Dr Sandhya Singh, Dr Khushdeep Singh Dhani, Dr Satish Kumar Gupta, Dr Gurnaz Singh Gill, Dr Maninder Kaur, Dr Manpreet Kaur Saini, Dr Satish Kumar, Dr Preeti, and Dr Rohit Sharma, delivered practical and comprehensive lectures covering various aspects of agro-based enterprises. Additionally, Dr Manmeet Manav, in charge of Agmark Laboratory, provided insights into quality standards and certifications.

The participants also visited an Agro-Processing Complex in the village of Daddahoor, Tehsil Raikot, District Ludhiana, where they gained hands-on exposure under the guidance of Dr Maninder Kaur and Dr Rohit Sharma. The visit enriched their understanding of agro-processing operations and business potential.

Dr. Prerna Kapila, the training coordinator, briefed the attendees about various other training programs organized by the Skill Development Centre. Dr. Kulveer Kaur concluded the event by extending thanks to all the participants and experts. She encouraged the trainees to implement the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to achieve success in their entrepreneurial ventures.
