Worthy Vice Chancellor of PAU sent a three member PAU team including Dr Manmohanjit Singh (Director, RRS Ballowal Saunkhri), Dr Sanjay Satpute (Scientist, Soil and Water Engineering, PAU) and Dr Abrar Yousuf (Scientist, Soil and Water Engineering, Ballowal Saunkhri) Telangana to study about the various initiatives taken by Telangana government for water conservation and irrigation water management as a follow-up of Honourable CM of Punjab’s visit to Telangana. The scientists were received and briefed by Mr. Sridhar Rao Deshpande, OSD to Honorable Chief Minister, Telangana. The scientists visited various locations of lift irrigation and renovated interlinked irrigation tanks developed by the Irrigation Department under Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and Mission Kakatiya. The impact of these projects on groundwater recharge was also shown. The team was accompanied by Mr. Hari Ram, Chief Engineer, Dr. Pandit, Director Groundwater board and other officials of the Irrigation Department. The team visited Komati Cheruvu tank, Peddarayan Cheruvu tank, Pandavula Cheruvu tank, Oora Cheruvu tank, Check dams of Kudleruvagu and Kondapochamma Sagar in Siddipet district. Check dams in Nijalapur, Kommireddypally and other MI tanks in nearby areas of district Mahabubnagar. Later, a special meeting was organized with Dr. Rajat Kumar (Special Chief Secretary, Irrigation and CAD, Telangana) and C. Muralidhar (Engineer in Chief, Telangana) regarding the water conservation initiatives of Telangana government and possibility of replicating these initiatives in Punjab. The visit was coordinated by Dr H S Sidhu, Dean, College of Agriculture Engineering, PAU.
