Punjab Agricultural University’s Regional Research Station (RRS) in Bathinda celebrated World Cotton Day (October 7), also known as Vishav Kapas Diwas, with enthusiasm and active participation from scientists, cotton farmers, and farm labourers. The event at the Cotton Experimental Research Area of RRS Bathinda aimed to educate and engage farmers in best practices for successful cotton cultivation.
During the event, cotton farmers received guidance on various aspects of cotton farming, including Bt cotton hybrids and varieties suitable for the southwestern region of Punjab, agronomic practices, and plant protection strategies. The scientists addressed key challenges and concerns related to cotton cultivation and offered practical solutions.
Dr K.S. Sekhon, Director of RRS Bathinda, emphasized the significance of cotton in Punjab’s economy, while Dr Paramjit Singh, Principal Cotton Breeder, highlighted the national importance of cotton and showcased different recommended varieties and hybrids to the participating farmers.
World Cotton Day provided an opportunity for the cotton farmers of Bathinda district to gain valuable insights from experts and learn about advanced practices, fostering greater awareness and adoption of sustainable cotton cultivation techniques.
