A field day on disease control techniques of tomato crop was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on 16.01.2025 at village Asrpur. About 80 farmers from villages Asrpur, Jogipur, Fatehpur, Kartarpur and Punian participated in this field day. Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala as well as scientists from Vegetable Department and Plant Disease Department of PAU, Ludhiana participated in this program. On this occasion, Deputy Director (Training) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Patiala Dr. Hardeep Singh Sabikhi welcomed the visiting farmers and informed them about various activities of KVK such as vocational training programs and farmers’ fairs etc. Principal Vegetable Breeder from PAU Dr. Shailesh Jindal introduced the farmers to PAU. He called for adopting improved varieties of tomatoes developed by the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and gave information about scientific recommendations for the production of tomato crop. Similarly, Dr. Sandeep Jain, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) motivated to adopt comprehensive preventive measures to avoid late blight disease, a serious disease affecting tomato crop. Professor Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur gave information about nutritious food management. In this program, Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture) shared the points of preparing a healthy tomato nursery. Conducting this program, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) made the farmers aware about the points of proper cultivation of rabi crops.
In this program, progressive farmers Gurmeet Singh, Barinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh etc. who came from Asrpur and neighboring villages informed the scientists about the problems faced in the production of tomato crop and their solutions. The farmers of the village thanked the team of scientists for organizing this program.
