AU-KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar organized a training camp on successful sesame cultivation at village Dhaul on 5-7-2024 to promote oilseed crops. Farmers from villages Dhaul and Nawanpind Tapprian participated in this camp.

At the outset, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dr. Jaswinder Kumar, welcomed the farmers and elaborated on suitable times and methods of sowing, weeds, and nutrient management for the sesame crop. He also stressed the need for judicious use of groundwater and need-based chemical fertilizer use on a soil test basis in Kharif season crops—paddy, basmati, and maize.

Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dr. Baljit Singh discussed pest control in the sesame crop. He said the sesame crop should be sown in the first fortnight of July, and proper spacing should be followed to minimize pest incidence. He also gave detailed information on symptoms and control measures of major insect pests and diseases of paddy, basmati, and maize.

In this farmer training camp, the Demonstration (Animal Science), Dr Gurinder Singh, also shared information regarding animal husbandry. He spoke on rainy season management of dairy animals and emphasised the need for a balanced diet. He also discussed in detail control measures against ticks and other diseases in animals.
