In a concerted effort to enhance environmental safety, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, organized a tree plantation campaign in the adopted village of Dewangarh Kaimpur. The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from 80 farmers and farm women, all committed to increasing the village’s green cover.

Dr Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Sangrur, inaugurated the event by emphasizing the importance of tree planting to show concern for the environment. He encouraged the farmers to plant more trees around their tubewells and highlighted the necessity of ongoing maintenance and care for these trees. Dr Singh stressed the critical role of environmental stewardship in ensuring a healthy and resourceful environment for future generations. He commended the farmers of Dewangarh Kaimpur for their initiative in keeping the village clean and green. He discussed various activities and outreach programs conducted by KVK Sangrur to benefit farmers and rural youth.

Dr Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), guided on selecting the right fruit varieties, optimal planting times, sources, and planting distances to ensure quality fruit yield. She shared essential tips on pit preparation, initial care, and nutritional needs for fruit plants, ensuring the farmers were well-equipped to manage their new plantings.

Dr Rukinder Preet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), discussed the historical importance of trees and shared efficient nutrient and water management strategies for agriculture with the farmers.

Participants were provided with literature on nutrition gardening and nutrition in guava fruit. The event also included demonstrations on the proper methods for planting fruit trees. 260 plants, including 160 guava and Chiku plants and 100 bakain trees, were distributed to the farmers for planting around their tubewells.
