Under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ropar, concluded a week long Vocational Training on Goat Farming on 19.6.2024. During the concluding session, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar, Dr Satbir Singh congratulated the 37 enrolled male and female rural youth and elaborated the importance of rearing descript breeds and breed improvement for intensified and economically progressive goat farming. Dr Singh also emphasised that such trainings are the need of the hour for ensuring the transformation of an old practice into a profitable enterprise for the contemporary generation.

Dr Aparna, Associate Professor, Animal Science, and also the Technical Coordinator of the course, elaborated the training curriculum and objectives of the training. She added that apart from teaching about feeding, breeding and management aspects, the training also focused on assessment of the physiological parameters of the animal, including ear tagging, dentition, azolla cultivation, zoonotic diseases and herbal garden for livestock.

The training also included distribution of saplings for generating ‘Protein Bank’ through live fencing of moringa, neem etc. Deputy Director (Trg.), Dr Satbir Singh, added that an amalgamation of theory and practical sessions on various management aspects will certainly pave the way for scientific goat farming in the district.
