As part of its ongoing tree plantation campaign, the PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Patiala, organized a successful event in the villages of Kheri Mania, Moond Khera, and Bakshiwala. More than 40 enthusiastic farmers and farm women participated.
Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Professor cum in charge at KVK Patiala, emphasized the environmental benefits of tree planting and inspired participants to grow quality and healthy fruits in their home gardens. She also highlighted various activities and training programs conducted by KVK Patiala for the benefit of farmers and farm women.
Dr. Rajni Goel, Professor (FST), discussed the nutritional value of fruits and the processing of traditional fruits like jamun, bael, and Karanda. Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor of Horticulture, provided guidance on the selection of fruit plants, pit digging, planting distances, and post-planting care, ensuring that farmers are well-equipped to manage their new plantings efficiently.
Dr. Hardeep Singh, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), offered insights into integrated disease management of fruit plants during the rainy season. He also discussed the management of rice dwarf virus and other diseases affecting paddy.
A total of 150 plants, including mango, neem, jamun, bael, Karanda, and moringa, were distributed to the farmers for planting around their tube wells, schools, and common lands. The campaign aimed to enhance the green cover and promote sustainable agricultural practices among the local farming communities.
