Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Langroya (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) conducted a vocational training course on ‘Dairy Farming’ from June 11th to 25th, 2024.
Animal science experts, including Dr Aparna Gupta from KVK Ropar, Dr Parminder Singh from KVK Hoshiarpur, and Dr Gurinder Singh from KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, provided trainees with essential information on dairy farming. Topics covered included dairy cattle breeds, shed structures, dairy farming methods, feed management, seasonal management of cattle and calves, disease prevention and treatment, and the economics of dairy farming. The course included practical sessions on animal handling, feeding and watering, administering medication, vaccination, dehorning calves, testing for mastitis using CMT kits, and preparing mineral mixtures at the farm level.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) at KVK Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, educated trainees on maintaining green fodder supplies year-round.
Shri Ram Sharan, Dairy Inspector from the Dairy Development Department, detailed cattle insurance and various government financial schemes available to support dairy farmers.
Associate Director (Training) Dr. Maninder Singh Bons highlighted key points for successful dairy farming and encouraged trainees to participate in other KVK-organized trainings. He extended his best wishes for their dairy farming endeavours and thanked them for their participation.
