PAU- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, organized a training camp on 17.01.2025 gobhi sarson cultivation at its campus. The programme aimed to promote oilseed cultivation and provide farmers with the latest insights and techniques.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, shared that KVK has been conducting demonstrations on oilseeds for several years to encourage their adoption. This year, cluster frontline demonstrations have been organized across 125 acres in various blocks and villages to showcase best practices for cultivating gobhi sarson. Interacting with farmers during the camp, Dr. Bons highlighted the purpose of these demonstrations, the canola cultivar GSC 7, and provided detailed guidance on cultivation practices, pest management, oil extraction, and the health benefits of canola oil.
KVK experts delivered technical lectures to further enhance the farmers’ knowledge. Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), educated the participants on identifying and managing yellow rust disease in wheat and shared integrated pest management practices for aphid control in wheat and gobhi sarson.
Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), discussed integrated nutrition gardening and mushroom cultivation. He informed the attendees about the availability of nursery plants for onion variety PRO 7 and white button mushroom bags at KVK for sale to farmers.
