With an aim to promote improved crop cultivation and plant protection practices for maize, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, organized a Kisan Goshthi on Maize Cultivation under ‘Cluster Frontline Demonstrations’ at its campus on July 12, 2024, under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana and ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-I, Ludhiana.

Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, welcomed the participants and gave an insight into the purpose of the Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on maize. He said that this kisan goshthi primarily focused on integrated weed and pest management of maize. Dr. Bons also dwelled upon the improved crop production practices including fertilizer and weed management in maize.

Technical experts from KVK Hoshiarpur Several – Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) and Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) delivered seminal information in their lectures regarding identification and integrated pest management of major pests of maize-maize stem borer and fall armyworm, water conservation techniques in kharif crops and integrated nutrition gardening. Post emergence weedicide – Laudis, pesticide for maize fall armyworm – Missile, and PAU literature were also provided to the farmers during the course of demonstrations.
