PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, organized a five-day vocational training course on “Nursery production and protected cultivation of vegetable crops” from September 23rd to 27th, 2024, at its campus.
During the inaugural function, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK, Hoshiarpur, highlighted KVK’s primary objectives and activities while encouraging the trainees to adopt nursery raising and protected vegetable cultivation as viable methods for income generation and employment creation. He also urged them to take full advantage of the wide range of services offered by KVK.
Dr Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) at KVK Hoshiarpur, led key sessions on traditional and high-tech methods of nursery raising, site selection, land preparation, seed and soil treatment and plant protection. The expert also delved into diverse aspects of polyhouse structures and vegetable cultivation under protected conditions.
The trainees engaged in fruitful interactions and gained practical knowledge on nursery bed preparation, seed sowing, and vegetable cultivation under protected conditions, including a low tunnel and playhouse.
Mr. Vikas Bhanot, Branch Manager of SBI, Mahilpur, shared information with the trainees regarding loan facilities for starting a new venture.
An educational cum exposure visit to the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables, Kartarpur, was also organized during the training.
