The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Ferozepur, under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education and the leadership of Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, organized a one-day training camp on August 8, 2024. The programme, conducted in collaboration with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), focused on “Agriculture Demand Side Management” and was attended by around 60 farmers and farmwomen from the district.
The training camp featured a series of technical lectures delivered by PAU-KVK Ferozepur experts on energy-saving techniques for agricultural operations, livestock management, and the adoption of energy-efficient farming technologies. Topics also covered the use of solar energy gadgets and the efficient utilization of agricultural machinery for sustainable resource management. Experts from PEDA and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) also contributed their valuable insights.
Dr. Munish Kumar, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), encouraged farmers to adopt environmentally friendly and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
Mr. Karan Kandhari, PEDA’s Program Coordinator (EC), discussed various schemes and subsidies offered by PEDA and provided a practical cost analysis for installing solar panels at both household and agricultural levels. He urged participants to incorporate energy-efficient gadgets into their daily routines and highlighted energy-saving methods for household applications.
Dr. H K Singh, an Energy Expert from BEE, presented a detailed overview of energy-efficient, BEE star-rated and solar appliances. He also outlined government initiatives aimed at promoting energy efficiency in the agricultural and household sectors.
Dr. Anand Gautam, Assistant Professor (FMPE), emphasized the use of solar energy gadgets for efficient agricultural machinery operation and motivated participants to adopt Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) and Crop Residue Management (CRM) techniques.
Dr. Divya, Assistant Professor (Home Science), chaired the session and addressed the growing energy consumption challenges in agriculture, while Dr. B.S. Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), offered practical tips for the successful cultivation of summer vegetables using drip irrigation and other energy-saving techniques.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion and question-answer session, in which farmers and farm women from different blocks of Ferozepur actively engaged. The KVK team expressed its gratitude to all attendees with a vote of thanks.
