The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Ferozepur, under the guidance of Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, recently conducted an awareness Camp on Surface Seeding Technology. The event in village Markhai saw enthusiastic participation from 53 farmers and farm women in the SC/ST category.
Dr Munish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Animal Science, emphasized the adoption of PAU-recommended technologies for sustainable agricultural production, encouraging farmers to explore subsidiary occupations for enhanced returns per unit area.
Dr Anand Gautam, Assistant Professor of Farm Machinery, urged farmers to diversify crops and highlighted the advantages of the low-cost and environmentally friendly technique of surface seeding for wheat cultivation. He also shed light on the detrimental effects of burning paddy straw on the environment.
Dr BS Sekhon, Assistant Professor of Vegetable Science, motivated attendees to embrace kitchen gardening and provided valuable insights into cultivating summer-season vegetable crops successfully.
Dr Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor of Soil Science, encouraged farmers to conduct soil and water testing for improved soil health. She emphasized the long-term benefits and advocated for the judicious use of fertilizers in crop cultivation.
