Under the awareness campaign regarding 26.06.2024 proper cultivation of paddy crop by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and under the guidelines of Director Extension Education PAU Ludhiana. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda conducted a survey of paddy production in different villages of Ghaso Khana, Bhai Bakhtaur, Kot Fatta, Kot Bhara and Ghuman Kala. The main objective of this survey is to sensitize the farmers regarding the prevention of Southern Rice Black Streak Dwarf Virus in paddy/basmati orchards. Dr. Gurdeep Singh Sidhu, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Bathinda, appealed to the farmers to keep surveying their nursery/paneri every day and if there is any problem of wilting of the plants, contact Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Agriculture University, Ludhiana or Contact the nearest Khatibari Department office. Dr. Gurdeep Singh further said that about 30 nurseries were visited by KVK and no attack of blindness was seen in any of the nurseries. Dr. Vinay Singh Assistant Professor (Entomology) said that plant blight is a viral disease that is spread by the white-backed grasshopper. Plants affected by this disease are stunted, with pointed leaves and less deep roots, the height of the plants is reduced to half or one third of normal plants and sometimes the plants wither and dry up. To prevent this disease, plow the fields deeply and destroy the previous residues. Keep water troughs and vats free from weeds. Uproot and destroy diseased plants early and effective control of the disease-spreading grasshopper (white-backed grasshopper) starts with the planting of paddy. Dr. Singh said that keep surveying the paddy crop from time to time and place a light bulb near the paddy/field at night to see the arrival of this locust. As soon as the arrival of this locust is seen, the farmer should apply any insecticide such as 94 ml. Paxalone 10 SC or 60 g Ulala 50 WG or 80 g Ushin/Token/Dominant 20 SG or 120 g Chess 50 WG or 300 ml. Dissolve Imagen 10 SC in 100 liters of water and spray on the roots of plants per acre.
On this occasion, experts also visited the fields regarding direct sowing and shared their views with the farmers.
