The Punjab Agricultural University’s Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering organized a “Training of Trainers on Paddy Straw Management to Control Straw Burning” programme under the Crop Residue Management (CRM) scheme 2024–25. The programme was planned specifically for the Agriculture Officers, Agriculture Development Officers, and Agricultural Engineers of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab, to combat the problem of stubble burning. A total of 24 participants from Mansa, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar attended the training programme.

Dr Mahesh Narang, Head of the Department and Course Director, motivated the trainees to create awareness among the farmers about paddy residue management. He said that the department was organizing intensive training programmes on paddy residue management, under the CRM scheme, for the state government functionaries from different districts of Punjab.

Dr Aseem Verma, Training Coordinator, informed that the trainees were imparted training about various in-situ- and ex-situ straw management technologies such as Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Super Seeder, Straw Chopper-cum-Spreader, Incorporation, Surface Seeder, Baling, etc. Weed and pest management in residue-managed fields was also discussed, he said.

Dr Mahesh Narang, Dr HS Sidhu, Dr Manpreet Singh, Dr Aseem Verma, Dr Jasvir Singh Gill, Dr Baldev Dogra and Dr Apoorv Prakash were the experts during the training programme. All the participants showed keen interest in the training sessions and interactive sessions on field problems. Trainees were also given hands-on experience with different machines during the programme.

Later, Dr Verma proposed a vote of thanks.
