PAU-FASC Tarn Taran organized an awareness camp in the village of Sarhali Khurd focused on managing weeds and iron deficiency in direct-seeded rice (DSR) on July 18, 2024, with over 3300 acres of land in the district under DSR, the camp aimed to support experienced and new practitioners of this technique.

Dr. Parminder Singh Sandhu, DES (Agronomy), discussed crucial technical aspects of successful DSR cultivation, including weed, fertilizer, and irrigation management. He emphasized the timely application of Punjab Agricultural University’s recommendations for ameliorating iron and zinc deficiencies in dry and tar wattar DSR. Dr Sandhu also informed that the PAU-FASC Tarn Taran team regularly conducts training camps on weed, fertilizer, and irrigation management to increase awareness among farmers.

Dr. Parminder Kaur, ES (Plant Pathology), educated farmers on the incidence and management of insect pests in DSR using recommended practices to maintain crop productivity.

Dr Savreet Khehra, DES (Fruits), provided insights on managing fruit flies in guava using non-woven bags without chemicals.

The camp also featured S. Bikramjeet Singh, a progressive farmer with four years of experience in DSR, who shared his practical insights. The experts addressed various queries from farmers regarding DSR, kharif crops, fruit crops, and insect pest management.
