The PAU-FASC Sangrur organised 12.07.2024 a village level awareness camp on “Water Management” at village Bhulan. It was second consecutive camp after the same held in the village Jakhepal Hambalwas Patti in Sangrur district.
Dr Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist (Soil Science), educated the farmers about the efficient use of water in kharif crops. He went into detail on how to use chemical fertilizers sparingly and conserve water in paddy and basmati crops. He also exhorted the need to irrigate paddy fields two days after the ponded water subsided into the soil. In addition, he talked about the significance of zinc in paddy, and recommendations for managing pests and diseases, including foot rot in basmati and sheath and blast in paddy. He also detailed the function of biofertilizer Azospirillum in improving soil health.
On this occasion, PAU literature, mineral mixture, bypass fat, UMMB, fruit fly trap, biofertilizer, and water testing kit for human use were displayed. A large number of questions were also effectively addressed.
Sh Bal Krishan, a progressive farmer, assisted in setting up the camp. His fields showed zinc deficiency symptoms during the field visit and he was guided as per PAU recommendation. Farmers purchased fruit fly traps, mineral mixture, UMMB and bio-fertilizer and expressed their gratitude for setting up such camps.
