The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Chapter, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), and the Soil Water Engineering Club, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAET), celebrated the World Soil Day on the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.” The event commemorated the significance of soil health and its crucial role in sustaining global ecosystems.

The chief guest Dr Brijendra Pateriya, Director of PRSC, and a guest speaker Dr Anil Sood (retd.), Principal Scientist, PRSC, Ludhiana graced the occasion.

Dr JP Singh, Chairman, ISTE Chapter, PAU, welcomed the dignitaries and the participants as well as highlighted the crucial role of healthy soils in ensuring the food security and livelihood by combating the climate change.

Dr Pateriya emphasized the importance of innovative techniques such as crop rotation, organic farming, natural resource management, and water for soil management. He especially emphasized Management of Soil Productivity (MSP) which can greatly enhance soil quality and boost agricultural productivity.

The guest speaker Dr Sood delivered an insightful session on the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage;” it echoed the pressing need to focus on soil conservation and sustainable agricultural practices. The session aimed to raise awareness about soil degradation, and its impact on food security. Additionally, the guest speaker engaged in a discussion with the students, exploring modern tools and techniques aimed at enhancing soil health.

Dr Sandhya Singh, Executive member, ISTE, presented a brief introduction of the chief guest and the guest speaker.

The overall event was organized and managed by Dr Sunil Garg, Secretary; Dr Sanjay Satpute, Dr Saurabh Rattra, and other executive members of the ISTE Chapter, PAU.

Dr Manpreet Singh, Faculty Advisor, Student’s Chapter, ISTE, PAU, proposed a vote of thanks.
