A Millet Quiz was jointed organized by the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics (PBG), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), and the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER Chandigarh, under the project ‘MERA’. The quiz, which was designed for the promotion of millets in the Punjab State, was organised during the Class Incharge Level Advisory meeting of the 6-year B.Sc Agri (Hons) students. The students participated in the quiz enthusiastically.

In her welcome remarks, Dr Ruchika Bhardwaj, Millets Breeder (Co-Principal Investigator), Department of PBG, boosted the spirit of the participants and highlighted the importance of millets.

The quiz was coordinated by Dr Ruchika Bhardwaj and Dr Rachna Srivastava, Scientist, PGIMER. To enhance the knowledge of the students, four teams in the names of millets viz., Sorghum, Bajra, Ragi and Kangni were constituted. The team Bajra comprising the students, Gopal Singla, Mandeep Singh and Deevansh Verma; and the team Kangni comprising the students, Gurmeen, Gursharandep Kaur and Varidhi Chhabra qualified for final round. Among both the teams, Kangni team got the first prize and the winners were awarded Gold Medals, certificates and a gift pack of millet item. The winners of the second team were awarded Silver Medals and certificates, while the members of the other teams who participated in the event were also awarded certificates.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr SK Dhillon, Professor, Plant Breeding-cum- Chairman Academic Affairs, PAU; Dr RS Sohu, Principal Forage Breeder-cum-Incharge, Forage, Millets and Nutrition Section; Dr Poonam Khanna, Principal Investigator, Additional Professor, Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health PGIMER Chandigarh; Dr Savita Sharma, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology; Dr Gagandeep Singh, Dr Usha Nara, Dr Sudhendu Sharma and Dr Nimsiha.

While proposing a vote of thanks, Dr Manmeet Kaur, Associate Prof of Extension Education, and Class Incharge 6-year of B.Sc Agri (Hons) programme, emphasized that this special event would enhance the knowledge about millets among PAU students.
