Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, Sangrur, under the guidance of Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Director, ICAR – Attari, Zone 1, wheat sowing was done in village Longowal using Happy Seeder technology while maintaining the stubble in the field.
Giving more information in this regard, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, Sangrur said that after chopping the stubble and spreading it evenly in the field, wheat can be successfully sown in the paddy stubble using the Happy Seeder machine. He further said that Happy Seeder technology is a very cheap and effective way to sow wheat by maintaining the paddy stubble in the field. This technology reduces the cost of sowing and wheat sowing is also not delayed. He said that S. Narinder Singh, village Longowal, district Sangrur is sowing wheat in 10 acres of land this year by taking a Happy Seeder machine from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, Sangrur.
During this demonstration, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Farm Machinery Expert, said that using Happy Seeder technology does not delay sowing nor does it reduce yield compared to traditional technology. Wheat sown with this machine does not fall and the problem of gulli stipend in wheat is also reduced. He said that a 45-50 horsepower tractor is required for sowing with Happy Seeder. This machine sows one acre with about 6-7 liters of diesel.
Dr. Rukinder Preet Singh, Crop Science Expert, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri, enlightened the farmers on the recommendations made by Punjab Agricultural University to deal with the attack of pink bollworm and soldier bollworm in wheat sown by saving stubble. He also informed the farmers about the fertilizer management in Happy Seeder.
