The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Moga successfully conducted a five-day vocational training programme on “Goat Farming: A Subsidiary Occupation” from August 19-23 under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. In this training programme, 65 candidates including both farm men/farm women actively participated from the districts of Moga, Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur and Sri Muktsar Sahib.

On the first day of the training, Dr Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Moga extended a warm welcome to the participants and made them aware regarding working of KVK system. He shared information regarding mandates of KVK and encouraged all the participants to adopt this subsidiary occupation for the betterment of their livelihood and extra source of income generation.

Dr Prabhjot Kaur Sidhu, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), acted as a course coordinator. She also handled expert lectures regarding breed identification, management of sheds according to different age groups of goats, feeding according to different category of age groups and importance of record maintenance at farm level to make the occupation profitable both at local or commercial level.

Dr Gurlal Singh Gill, AP (Animal Science), KVK, Faridkot delivered a lecture on the topic of “Common Diseases/Ailments of Goats and their Prevention and Treatment” to the goat farmers.

Dr Baljot Singh, Fisheries Officer, Moga also delivered a lecture on “Azolla Cultivation” and “Integration of livestock animals with aqua culture”.

Mr Nirmal Singh, Extension Officer, DIC, Moga imparted knowledge regarding different schemes like PFGP and PFMC and subsidies available for goat farmers.

During closing ceremony, literature regarding Goats Rearing in Punjab was also distributed among farmers.

Dr Prabhjot Kaur Sidhu, AP (Animal Science), thanked all the participants and motivated them to take up this new venture for financial sustainability.
