Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Sri Muktsar Sahib, under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU Ludhiana, conducted a comprehensive training and awareness programme focused on Energy Conservation on August 20, 2024. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) as part of the Agriculture Demand Side Management (AgDSM) initiative of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India. The event saw active participation from 62 farmers and farm women, who gathered to learn about various strategies for conserving energy and water.

Dr. Karamjit Sharma, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Sri Muktsar Sahib, welcomed the participants and provided valuable insights into the judicious use of solar energy and the conservation of underground water. He highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable practices to ensure long-term agricultural productivity.

During the programme, Mr. Karan Kandhari, Programme Coordinator at PEDA, shared detailed information about various government schemes designed to harness solar energy at both household and farm levels. He emphasized the benefits of integrating solar energy solutions into daily agricultural practices.

Mr. Rahul Jangid, Energy Manager at the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, educated participants on various water conservation techniques and the use of solar energy gadgets, such as solar dryers and solar cookers. His presentation underscored the potential of these technologies to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental sustainability.

Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy); Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Extension Education); Dr. Vivek Sharma, Assistant Professor (Animal Science); Dr. Manjeet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Soil Science); and Dr. Sukhjinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Fruit Science) also shared their perspectives on energy and water conservation.

The training and awareness programme concluded with an interactive session where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the practical applications of the concepts presented.
