The Fish Nutrition, Biochemistry & Physiology (FNBP) Division of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai, successfully organised a Brainstorming Session on “Empowering Student Entrepreneurs: Innovating Aquafeed for Sustainable Aquaculture” on 29th of July 2024. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Dheer Singh, Director/Vice-Chancellor, NDRI Karnal, in the presence of Dr. Ravishankar CN, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICARCIFE, Dr. N. P Sahu, Joint Director, ICAR-CIFE and Dr. K.N. Mohanta, Head, FNBP Division, ICAR-CIFE and Convener of this important event. In his inaugural address, Dr. Singh highlighted about the entrepreneurship opportunities for students especially in the fishery and dairy sectors as they are the two fastest growing agricultural sectors in the country. He emphasized the importance of Agri-Business Incubation Centre of the ICAR Institute/SAUs/CAUs in promoting the student entrepreneurship. Dr. Ravishankar thanked all the Deans of the 13 Fisheries Colleges across the India for nominating their students. He appealed the students to take up industry-driven problem solving research. Dr. Sahu highlighted about the importance of feed in aquaculture to meet the production target. Dr. Mohanta welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of organizing this event and appealed the industries to come forward to fund the student research programmes. Dr. Prem Kumar, Senior Scientist, FNBP, ICAR-CIFE, Organizing Secretary outlined the details of three technical programme. On this occasion, ‘CIFE GlowX’ a Freshwater Ornamental Fish Feed developed by the FNBP Division (Inventing Scientists: Dr. Sikendra Kumar, Dr K.N. Mohanta & Dr N. P. Sahu) was released, which can be used to rear the fish species such as goldfish, koi carp, barbs, guppy, molly, tetra, swordtail, angel fish, etc., in a community aquarium tank. In addition to that, brochures of four feeds named CIFE GlowX, CIFE Green, CIFE Wint and product profiles developed by FNBP divisions were also released. A total of 100 participants, including experts from 14 aquafeed industries, 5 progressive fish farmers-cum-entrepreneurs, 31 students from 13 fisheries colleges across India and more than 50 students from FNBP Division attended in this programme. The programme was highly successful and all the participants appreciated it.
