ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, organized a Brainstorming Workshop on ‘Sustainable Rice Production: Strategies and Policies’ on 16 October 2024.

The Chief Guest Dr B. Venkateswarlu, Former Vice-Chancellor, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani, Maharashtra, emphasized the need for rationalization of rice areas and suggested focusing on improving the paddy yields in low-productive North Eastern states of India.

The Guest of Honor, Dr R.M.Sundaram, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, apprised about the important developments in rice research since the Green Revolution to the present date and elaborated upon the modern tools and approaches that can be deployed for achieving the goal of sustainable rice production.

Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, emphasized the significance of sustainable rice production in light of the increasing demand from a growing population, shifting consumer preferences, diminishing natural resources, and the negative effects of climate change. He also called for policy interventions to support achieving sustainable development goals related to rice production.

A total of 34 participants attended the programme.
