PAU, Farm Advisory Service Center, Gurdaspur organized a meeting of the members of Punjab Young Farmers Organization, Gurdaspur in which 57 members participated. Shri Rajinder Singh Bal, DES (SM), Farm Advisory Service Center, Gurdaspur welcomed the members and gave detailed information about the purpose of this organization. Along with this, he also shared information about the prevention of diseases and harmful insects in Rabi crops. He said that due to yellow powder in wheat, yellow powder is formed in stripes on the leaves. It is very important to identify this disease on time so that further spread of yellow powder can be prevented by spot application of fungicides at the beginning. He further advised that the attack of Karnal bunt on wheat is increasing every year and to prevent this, the farmer heroes should prepare disease-free seeds themselves.

Dr. Akunsh Paroch, KVK, Gurdaspur presented his views on the proper care of dairy cows on this occasion. He highlighted the importance of mineral mixture, cow dung, bypass fat.

Shri Kamaljit Inder Singh Bajwa, Agriculture Department, Gurdaspur gave information about various schemes being run by his departments and advised the farmers to take maximum advantage of these schemes.

The members of the association who attended the meeting also presented their views. Shri Gurdial Singh, village Sallopur said that along with agriculture, farmers should also adopt allied businesses so that farm income can be increased. He also organized an exhibition on this occasion in which various products like honey, turmeric, pickles, marmalades and chutneys etc. were displayed.

Shri Gurdev Singh, village Basantgarh advised the farmers to cultivate pulses. He also said that every farmer should definitely grow vegetables and fruits suitable for their home.

Shri Dalip Thakur, village Kahnuwan said that he is earning good profit by cultivating dragon fruit on one acre.

Shri Sukhwinder Singh, village Mullanwal said that considering the sensitivity of the time, we should come towards organic farming. The use of pesticides and fertilizers should be done only as per the recommendations of PAU. On this occasion, he also gifted his prepared organic jaggery to the other members.

Mr. Sukhwinder Singh, village Kallu Sohal shed light on the disadvantages of burning paddy stubble and the advantages of managing the stubble in the field itself. He said that PAU straw cutter cum spreader and mulcher are very good machines for managing the stubble. He said that he himself has sown wheat on 40 acres of land with this technology.

Finally, Mr. Bhagat Singh, Mr. Sukhwinder Singh and Mr. Dalip Thakur, who have been managing the paddy stubble in their fields for the last many years, were honored.
