With the aim of showcasing the variety of mangoes in Bihar and providing a better market to mango producing farmers, the two-day Amotsav-2024 has started today at the Raj Bhavan of Bihar. This program is being jointly organized by Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour and Agriculture Department, Government of Bihar. More than 1000 specimens of more than 300 mango varieties have come from all over Bihar in this Amotsav, apart from this, an exhibition of various mango products has been organized. A large number of mango producing farmers, traders and mango lovers are participating in the program.
Amotsav-2024 was inaugurated by the Honorable Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. On this occasion, the Honorable Governor said in his address that “My love for mango is very old, Alphonso and Hapus mangoes of Goa, where I am from, are known as the identity of India all over the world. But when I was given Bhagalpuri Jardalu mango by the Vice Chancellor of BAU Sabour on my visit to Bihar, I was very impressed with its taste, I can say that Bihar’s major mangoes Jardalu, Digha Maldah and Dudhiya Maldah have the potential to be established as the identity of India. The Honorable Governor, while explaining the purpose behind organizing Amotsav-2024, said that “the taste of Bihar’s mango is very unique and if it gets a proper market, then certainly the mango producers will benefit greatly.” He said that if we talk about setting up industry in Bihar, then that industry should be agriculture based.
In this Amotsav, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha in his address highlighted the unique relationship between mango and Indian culture and said that mango is the biggest gift of nature and in the scriptures it is also known as Amrit fruit. He said that Bihar has so many varieties of mangoes, yet Bihar ranks fourth in the country in mango production. Such events will increase the production and marketing of mangoes and Bihar will certainly achieve the first position in mango production.
Hon’ble Agriculture Minister Shri Mangal Pandey said that more than 300 varieties and various mango products have been displayed in the mango exhibition. Various mango products displayed here have a lot of entrepreneurial potential, so after taking this into consideration today, the Agriculture Department will work in this direction. He said that mango is cultivated in about 1.6 lakh hectares of area in Bihar and the average yield is 9.7 tons per hectare. Horticulture Mission of Bihar Government and Mukhyamantri Intensive Horticulture Scheme are registering an increase in the yield area every year. The Honorable Minister appreciated the contributions of Bihar Agricultural University in increasing the productivity of mango.
On this occasion, many dignitaries participated in the program apart from horticulture scientists from across the country. These included Hon’ble Ministers of Bihar Government Dr. Prem Kumar and Shravan Kumar, Padma Shri Ramchet Chaudhary, Padma Shri Rajkumari Devi popularly known as Kisan Chachi, Mango Man Ashok Chaudhary, former Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. H. P. Singh and currently Assistant Director General (Fruit and Plantation Crops) Dr. Vishwabandhu Patel, besides Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Dr. D. R. Singh, Principal Secretary to Hon’ble Governor, Mr. Robert Chongthu and Secretary Agriculture Department, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, etc. dignitaries were present.
Earlier, the Hon’ble Governor released the souvenir booklet of Amotsav-2024 and the book titled Varietal Wealth of Bihar. The Hon’ble Governor also inaugurated a short documentary on Jardalu Mango and Mango Portal.
Amotsav-2024 will remain open for all common people till tomorrow, 16.06.2024.
