Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Education & Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi flagged off a reefer van loaded with 4 tonnes of Malihabadi Dussehri mangoes for USA from the Rehmankheda Campus of ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow on 17th June 2024. Shri Dinesh Pratap Singh, Minister of State for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Exports (Independent Charge), Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Agricultural Production Commissioner, UP, Dr. T. Damodaran, Director ICAR-CISH, Lucknow, Smt. Vinita Sudhanshu, MD, APEDA, New Delhi, Dr. K. S. Ravi, Exporter, Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur (Karnataka), Shri Vijay Bahadur Dwivedi, Director, Horticulture & Food Processing Directorate, Lucknow, Shri Umang Gupta, Mango Aggregator, Malihabad and all the concerned scientists of the Institute were present on the occasion. Speaking at the pre-ceremony function, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Education & Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi assured that a Food Park/Pack House with treatment and packing facility for fruits and vegetables would be set up near Jewar Airport in Noida to enable export of UP produce by cargo aircraft or sea at low cost. He informed that Malihabadi Dussehri, Chaunsa from Western UP and Langra from Eastern UP have already been listed and are being exported. He expressed happiness over the efforts made by ICAR-CISH in close coordination with the exporters and farmers as well as Central and State agencies. He described the technologies developed by ICAR-CISH, Lucknow under the able leadership of Dr. T. Damodaran for enhancing storage capacity and disease tolerance of mango as encouraging and miraculous. Shri Dinesh Pratap Singh disclosed his long association with ICAR-CISH and expressed happiness over the success in exports and said that he would continue to extend his wholehearted support whenever required. Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Agriculture Production Commissioner, UP informed that after preliminary discussions with Dr. T. Damodaran, the export target from UP to USA and Europe is almost certain to be achieved and accordingly financial assistance is being provided for implementation of the plans. He also mentioned the lack of radiation treatment facility in North India and re-invited Dr. K.S. Ravi Exporter, Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur to set up Food Park/ Pack House facility in Noida. Earlier, Dr. T. Damodaran, Director, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow congratulated each and every contributor in realizing the dream of exporting mango from UP to USA. He set a target of sending 4 tons of mango every week from UP to Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur (Karnataka) for radiation treatment followed by air-lift to USA. Smt. Vinita Sudhanshu, MD, APEDA, New Delhi promised to continue whole-hearted support in this venture.

Dr. K.S. Ravi Exporter, Mango Exporter, Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur (Karnataka) Ravi, Exporter, Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur spoke about the success of the current scheme in Noida, UP and the U.P. The Institute unveiled its plan to set up an Innova Agri Food Park after reviewing the opportunities and constraints in working with the U.P. Aiming to export mangoes from Uttar Pradesh to Europe and the US, the work is underway under the dynamic leadership of Dr. T. Damodaran who analysed the problems and opportunities, developed technology to fill the gaps and arranged air-lift to the US within a short period of about 18 months of his directorship. The Institute approached the Government of Uttar Pradesh, exporters, aggregators and mango growers to execute the plans. The Metwash technology was tested on different varieties of mangoes imported from Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha and various parts of UP during April to September 2023 to enhance storage capacity of mangoes. A consignment of Totapuri mangoes has already been transported to Europe via sea route using this technology and in future, U.P. mangoes will also follow the same path. Necessary financial support was received from the Government of Uttar Pradesh through Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Lucknow for formation of three mango clusters. Dussehri from Malihabad, Lucknow under the leadership of Dr. Manish Mishra, Dr. S.C. Ravi and Dr. S. Routray; Chaunsa mango cluster in Bulandshahr and Saharanpur is headed by Dr. P.K. Shukla and Dr. S.K. Shukla and Langra mango in Varanasi is headed by Dr. Ashish Yadav, Dr. Akath Singh and Dr. S.K. Singh. Good agronomic protocols for mango production were developed and extended to farmers, along with important inputs like fruit bagging bags were also provided to the growers. As a result, export quality production was possible. Mango aggregator Mr. Umang Gupta of Malihabad also played a vital role in implementation of schemes and plucking and processing of fruits. Dr. K.S. Ravi, Exporter, Innova Agri Bio Park, Malur took the responsibility of post transportation treatment and packing and air-lift of mangoes from UP. Mrs. Vinita Sudhanshu, MD, APEDA, New Delhi also extended full support during this process especially in arranging availability of American Quality Inspector at Malur to ensure supply after air-lift of each consignment. Necessary financial support was received from the Government of Uttar Pradesh through Lucknow. The cluster of Dussehri; Chaunsa mango from Malihabad, Lucknow is headed by Dr. Manish Mishra, Dr. S.C.
