Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Langroya, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar held a two-day training programme on natural farming at Alowal village from December 14th to 15th, 2023. The participation of 40 farmers and farmwomen enriched this initiative to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
Mrs Renu Bala, Demonstrator (Home Science), commenced the training by warmly welcoming the attendees. She shed light on KVK’s dedicated efforts to propagate natural farming and discussed the institution’s array of vocational training programs, emphasizing the encouragement for embracing allied agriculture vocations.
Mrs Renu shared insights on Self Help Groups, emphasizing the importance of record-keeping, financial management, and sustaining funds.
Dr Arti Verma, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), underscored the contemporary relevance of natural farming. She outlined KVK’s endeavours in promoting natural farming through project-driven approaches, employing awareness campaigns, training sessions, and practical demonstrations across Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Dr Verma also elucidated the significance of fruits, vegetables, cultivation techniques for winter produce, and mushroom farming in a balanced human diet.
The concluding day of the programme featured Dr Baljit Singh, Assistant Professor (Entomology), who provided an in-depth exploration of the fundamental principles and practical facets of natural farming. He elucidated pest management strategies tailored for natural farming practices. Dr Baljit Singh further conducted method demonstrations on preparing essential natural farming components like “jeev amrit,” “beej amrit,” and “brahma astra.”
As a gesture of support, the participants were furnished with onion seedlings and valuable Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) literature.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Baljit Singh extended thanks to Smt Sheela Devi, the Sarpanch of Alowal village, and Krishi Sakhi, Mrs Seema Rani, for their invaluable assistance in organizing the training programme.
