Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ludhiana (Samrala) recently hosted a five-day training programme on ‘Bakery and Confectionery’ under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, and in collaboration with ICAR ATARI Zone-1. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from 18 women/adolescent girls and three men.
During the inaugural session, Er Karun Sharma, in charge of KVK, warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the vast potential in home baking and confectionery. He highlighted that this training could empower rural women, enabling them to hone their skills and boost their income. He urged them to view this endeavor as a stepping stone towards self-employment.
Dr Parvinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Home Science, shed light on the increasing demand for home-baked goods. She stressed how it not only provides easy access to hygienic bakery products at home but also adds variety to everyday meals, all at an affordable price. Participants were offered hands-on experience in preparing a wide range of treats, including biscuits, chocolates, muffins, tea cakes, dry fruit cakes, and jam cakes, using the latest baking techniques.
The training program culminated with an exciting competition where trainees showcased their skills by creating various delectable products.
