In collaboration with PAU, Ludhiana, and ICAR, ATARI Zone-1, KVK Ropar recently organized a district-level awareness programme centered on the Eco-Friendly Integrated Farming System (IFS). The event aimed to educate farmers on integrating field crops, horticultural crops, agroforestry trees, and livestock for sustainable and profitable farming practices. Over a hundred farmers and farm women actively participated in this enlightening programme.

The programme was spearheaded by Dr Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Ropar, who emphasized the importance of integrating livestock systems with crop cultivation practices to enhance farmers’ income while ensuring the sustainable use of resources. Dr Singh encouraged farmers to adopt IFS to reduce cultivation costs, increase margins, and maintain ecological balance.

During the programme, Dr Aparna, Associate Professor (Animal Science), provided insights into dairy, poultry, goat, and pig farming practices, focusing on technical aspects.

Dr Sanjeev Ahuja, Associate Professor (Vegetable Science), discussed the benefits of incorporating horticultural crops into livestock farming, highlighting the production of residue-free vegetables and fruits.

Ms Ankurdeep Preety, an expert in agroforestry, shared guidance on planting traditional trees like kikar, thali, and neem, as well as winter cultivating field crops with poplar trees.

Dr Princy, an expert in Home Science, advised on healthy preservation methods for seasonal fruits and vegetables, along with the use of solar devices for sustainability. Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), discussed eco-friendly techniques for managing insect pests in IFS. Dr Jagmanjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), emphasized the importance and methods of preparing different types of compost in IFS.

The event concluded with Dr Satbir Singh updating participants on various online platforms offered by PAU, Ludhiana, which facilitates continuous knowledge updates for farmers.
