Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ludhiana (Samrala) organized an awareness camp on mobilization of school students for crop residue management on October 18, 2023 at Government Senior Secondary School (boys), Samrala under the ongoing campaign “Prali Prabandhan Chetna Yatra”. The camp was organized under the guidance of Dr. Manoj Sharma Associate Director (Trg.), KVK Ludhiana (Samrala). The main aim of the programme is to sensitize the students on the issue of crop residue management. Around 115 school students participated in this programme.
Dr. Parvinder Kaur Assistant professor (H.Sci.) welcomed all the participants and informed them about Competitions under various categories of essay writing, slogan writing and poster making. Around 30 students participated in the Competition and the best entries among respective categories were felicitated.
During the mobilization of school students Er. Karun Sharma Incharge KVK Ludhiana (Samrala) highlighted the serious effects of residue burning and discussed about various activities of KVK Ludhiana (Samrala) in generating mass awareness among youth on these issues. He also shed light on various technologies available for paddy residue management. He also emphasized on the management of paddy residue through the use of farm machinery like happy seeder, super seeder, surface seeder, MB plough, rotavator, mulcher, etc.
Dr. Harshneet Singh Assistant Professor (Soil Science) highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue. He also motivated the students for effective utilization of natural resources and efficient management of crop residue for sustainable agriculture and safeguarding the environment.
