Under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, KVK Kapurthala has adopted three villages Sangra, Baupur Kadeem and Baupur Jadeed with the mission – Reach to Unreach as these villages are remote and neglected areas of the district. Recent floods in the month of August have badly affected these villages as these are situated in the periphery of the river Sutlej and Beas. There is total damage of paddy, fodder and other seasonal crops sown in these villages, making normal life at halt. Now, water is receding and KVK team, kicked off drive of different interventions to be organized in these operational villages. With the commencement of this drive, method demonstration on plantation of fruit plants in kitchen garden was given by Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Assoc. Prof. (Veg.Sci.). She further advised farmers to make a pit of 1x1m while planting for proper root development and add 15ml Chloropyriphos 20EC in each pit for control of termite. Dr.Bindu, Assoc. Prof. (Agri.Eng.) discussed about subsidiary occupation which the young farmers of the area can adopt for additional income. Dr. Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Trg.) facilitated the farmers with Kinnow and Amla plants along with seedlings of brinjal and tomato for kitchen gardens. He further ensured farmers of the area that such interventions will be continued in the coming season and also promised farmers to stand with them in each and every farming situation. Mr. Kuldeep Singh farmer representative extend thanks to the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on behalf of all the farmers to extend helping hands under such situations.
