PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, organized a Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting on January 29, 2024. Chaired by Dr Gurjinder Pal Singh Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education at PAU, Ludhiana, the meeting welcomed dignitaries, including Dr Kuldip Singh Matttewal, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur and eminent personalities from allied line departments, representatives from farmer associations, and KVK scientists actively participated in the meeting.
Dr Matttewal applauded KVK scientists for contributing to the farming community and stressed the need to align agricultural research and extension with changing weather conditions. He highlighted the significance of quality gur, jaggery production, and joint monitoring of paddy residue management demonstrations.
During his presidential remarks, Dr Sodhi underscored the importance of adding value and processing agricultural produce for enhanced economic returns. He emphasized the role of farmer-producer organizations in efficient marketing and praised the collaborative efforts between KVK and allied departments. Dr Sodhi commended KVK’s initiatives promoting paddy residue management and called for increased focus on agro-tourism.
Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) KVK, Hoshiarpur, presented a comprehensive report on the previous SAC meeting’s outcomes, the annual progress of KVK’s activities, and the action plan for the upcoming year.
The SAC members engaged in fruitful discussions, offering valuable suggestions to enhance KVK’s effectiveness. During the event, extension literature on crop residue management and cluster frontline demonstrations on soybeans were released. The dignitaries also visited the paddy residue management demonstration learning platform and other units at the KVK farm.
In conclusion, Dr Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science) at KVK, Hoshiarpur, thanked the guests, SAC members, and progressive farmers for their contributions and participation in the meeting.
