Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, conducted an awareness campaign for promoting Integrated Nutrition Gardening in Chaggran village on September 25, 2023.
Dr Maninder Singh Bons, the Associate Director (Training) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, warmly welcomed the local farmers and farm women who gathered for this enlightening event. During his address, Dr Bons provided an insightful overview of the diverse range of services and initiatives offered by the KVK for the welfare of the farming community. He emphasized the significance of a balanced and nutritious diet in today’s context, shedding light on the nutritional value of vegetables. Dr Bons also shared valuable insights on cultivating rabi crops and introduced newly recommended varieties to the attendees.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Aulakh, an Assistant Professor specializing in Vegetable Science, elucidated the intricacies of the integrated nutrition garden model developed by PAU, Ludhiana. He delved into the planning, plantation, and maintenance aspects of this innovative gardening approach, equipping the farmers with valuable knowledge. As a practical step towards fostering nutrition-rich practices, winter vegetable seed kits were distributed to the attending farmers and farm women, encouraging them to establish their kitchen gardens.
Among the distinguished guests at the event were Sh Sarwinder Singh, the Sarpanch of Chaggran village, and other forward-thinking farmers, including Sh. Surjit Singh, Sh Gurcharan Singh, Sh Daan Singh, Sh Rajwinder Kumar, Sh Manmohan Singh, Sh Surjit Singh Powar Bittu, Sh Amarjit Singh, Sh Ajit Singh and Sh Dhanveer Singh.
